Flip-flops, Summer reading, Ice-cream

Last day of school led to flip-flop buying,
a trip to the library to stock up on summer reading material,

and last day of school ice-cream with a friend at Carmen & David's, one of our favorite ice-cream places in our favorite downtown Lancaster!

Old and New

Last week my sister and I attended a wonderful craft show, called Art Star Craft Bazaar (where I purchased this wonderful new pincushion. What girl doesn't need a beautiful pincushion) and this week my sister is participating in a craft show with her wonderful Snacky French baked goods and she gave me some space to add some aprons to the mix.

This created a frenzy of sewing until my sewing machine started making a clunk clunk noise. I am considering calling in on Car Talk and see if they can help me out with the noise, but I have a feeling I would hear much snickering, kind of like my husband is doing right now. But really how different is a car engine from a sewing machine engine...an engine is an engine right?

All this sewing, brought back many memories of my Grammy. We were reminded at her funeral, just how much crafting was a part of her life...with the display of the many quilts she had made, doilies she had crocheted, and rugs she had woven. What a gift. Grammy left us with many beautiful things but more importantly she left a legacy of creating beauty.

A beautiful day

On Sunday my family celebrated a belated Easter and Mother's day. My sister hosted a wonderful brunch for us on their lovely porch.

Bread in a pot, not only delicious but so fun to look at.

This was some of the food...yum! My sister has posted some of the recipes on her blog. You can see them here.

After lunch we did an egg hunt. And later we took to the bike trails. That is one of the things I love about my sister's house is that they live right next to rail trails.

Such a fun treat! Thanks sis for a truly relaxing mother's day! And to mom...I am so thankful for you. Happy Mother's day!

GOTR Spring run

My youngest daughter after enjoying Girls on the Run so much in the fall decided to join again this Spring. And this past Saturday was the much anticipated 5K! She struggled through the season with a lot of foot pain...I was so grateful that she was feeling up to running on race day. Here she is ready to go!

Pre-race primping with one of her coaches...

Our star runner with her running buddies...our good friend who ran with her in the fall...and I was so grateful after a year of not running to be able to join them and run the race...so grateful!

Here they are at the finish line! Notice that I am no where to be found. Our friend encouraged my daughter to go for it and sprint the last lap...with that my daughter took off and luckily E could keep up with her!

It was a wonderful day, incredible weather, a beautiful course with lots of interesting things to look at (including two camels), and a treat of popsicles at the end. It doesn't get much better than this!
And you are truly my number one runner...my star!

Easter glimpse

Our Easter this year was different. But different isn't bad, it is just different :) and this year, different was good.

Some things did stay the same though such as the Swedish filled Easter eggs the girls had to hunt for.

Something new I tried this year was making p-butter Easter eggs. A friend was making them and I thought I would give them a whirl. A reliable source said they were a hit! If you want to have a go yourself, here is the recipe...

Peanut butter eggs
2 c p-butter
1 lb 10x sugar (around 2 cups)
3 C. rice crispies
1/4 lb. butter

Shape into eggs and coat with melting chocolate. (makes 57)

(I made half the recipe, oh and another tip make sure you chill the dough first and then the shaped eggs before dipping in chocolate)

After our morning at church, we came home and had some lunch, looked for eggs, and other goodies and then made our way to a lookout point close to where we live. We enjoyed some mini bowling, bunny tiddlywinks, reading, resting and each other!

Different can be a blessing sometimes! I am thankful for it but most of all I am thankful for Easter this year and every year....for Jesus who made a way for my life to be different.
